In the gaming community it is common knowledge that most video games based on movies leave something to be desired. They usually lack any real depth. If you’ve seen the movie, you’ve already played the game because the story lines are carbon copies of each other. The games are often rushed thru production in order to guarantee shipment before the movie premiere, and this can lead to annoyances such as game play issues, bugs, and overall low quality.
Of course there are exceptions to the rule, but for every Chronicles of Riddick, or Golden Eye, there are ten Beowulfs or Disney’s Aladdins.
Despite the odds against games based on films, I am eagerly anticipating this fall and the expected release of
Ghostbusters; The Video Game. The folks at Sierra are betting that I won’t be the only gamer to pack up the group, get a grip, come equipped, grab my proton pack off my back and then split. Hopefully this latest edition to the franchise is a well thought out conglomerate of story, plot, graphics, and game play. Video game technology has come a long way since 1984 when I was first disappointed by Ghostbusters on the Commodore 64. This fall we will find out if this title will be Too Hot to Handle, or, Too Cold to Hold.
